چکیده

The objective of the present study is to research the effect of dietary vitamin E (Vit E) on the antioxidative status and lipid peroxidation in laying hens as well as in egg yolks under experimentally induced oxidative stress conditions via Dexamethasone (DEX) administrations. A total of 60 Egyptian local strain (Gimmizah) laying hens at 36 weeks of age were housed in individual cages in an open-sided building under a 16 hr light: 8 hr dark lighting schedule. Birds were randomly divided into four experimentally treatments [DEX (4 mg/hen/day), Vit. E (200 mg/kg diet), DEX+Vit. E (4 mg/hen/day+ 200 mg/kg diet; respectively) and control, n= 15]. Birds were provided with commercial feed and water ad libitum. All treatments lasted for 7 successive days. Oxidative stress induced by DEX injections significantly reduced egg production and egg weight. Vit. E recovered this reduction when supplemented to stressinduced hens, compared to DEX treatment. Highly yolk lipid oxidation was associated with oxidative stress treatment and it was reduced by Vit E supplementation. The same trend was observed in lipid peroxidation in plasma and liver. It could be concluded that super-nutritional levels of Vit E (200 mg/kg diet) may contribute in enhancing laying performance and antioxidative properties of laying hens under stress conditions.

Beneficial Effects of Maternal Vitamin E Supplementation on the Antioxidant System of the Neonate Chick Brain

Oxidative stress plays a crucial role in the laying stage which is a critical period for chick survival. We investigated the relationship of neonatal chick performance, brain antioxidant status and vitamin E supplementation level in hens. Starting at 17 weeks, hens were randomly divided into five groups. The control group received a basal diet without supplemental vitamin E (VE, dl-αtocopherol ...

Supplementation of Vitamin E and C Reduces Oxidative Stress in Broiler Breeder Hens during Summer

The present experiment was carried out to evaluate the effects of vitamin E and C supplementation on the antioxidant status of broiler breeder hens during summer. Two hundred seventy broiler breeder birds (coloured) were divided into nine groups with three replicates having 10 birds in each, and were supplemented two levels of antioxidant vitamins E (250 mg or 500 mg/kg) or C (200 mg or 400 mg/...

Effects of Dietary Supplemental Vitamin E and Chromium on Egg Production, Egg Quality and Blood Parameters of Laying Hens under Thermoneutral or Heat Stressed Conditions

The effects of dietary supplemental vitamin E (VE) and chromium (Cr) on egg production (EP), egg quality, serum concentrations of Cr and insulin and activity of glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) were evaluated in Lohmann LSL-Lite laying hens reared under thermoneutral or heat stress (HS) conditions. A total of 144 laying hens were distributed in 24 cages and assigned to feed four diets including ...

Laying performance, digestibility and plasma hormones in laying hens exposed to chronic heat stress as affected by betaine, vitamin C, and/or vitamin E supplementation

Heat stress had a negative effect on laying hens' performance, thus this research was to study the influences of betaine (Bet, 1000 mg/kg betaine), vitamin C (VC, 200 mg/kg ascorbic acid), and vitamin E (VE, 150 mg/kg α-Tocopherol acetate) and their possible combinations on egg production, digestibility of nutrients, plasma hormones and reproductive organs of dual-purpose hens exposed to chroni...
